I cannot remember a time since I could first hold a pencil that I did not love drawing – more often than not, inspired by my favourite TV shows, movies and comics.
During my teens at school, and then subsequently in college, I discovered art history and was drawn to the figurative and anatomical work of The Renaissance masters, Michelangelo Buonarroti in particular. At the same time the dynamic superheroes I loved so much were undergoing a renaissance of their own and this opened the door to me to so many new worlds and artistic visions of them.
After graduating from art college, I spent over three decades working as a graphic designer and illustrator, which gave me a solid grounding in composition, colour, balance and visual hierarchy as well as a clear ability to communicate through imagery.
Now, at the other end of the journey which my younger self began, I have re-embraced the ’childish things’ I once put away and am again enjoying art the way I did then; for enjoyment, discovery and a way to 'play' on the page.
